Alpaca Textured Shawl

Textured Shawl

A few weeks ago I made a pilgrimage to the Washington County Fiber Fest.  There, I was thoroughly indoctrinated into the faith in alpaca as king on high of all yarns, also that angora rabbits are so sinfully soft that too much petting may induce a furtive sensation of guilt.  Luckily angoras don’t die for our sins, though they do live out their lives in cages to best protect their silky pelt.  Meh, I’ll stick to those goofy-toothed, (relatively) free-ranging, bundle-carting alpacas.

Though I really wanted to come home with enough deliciously soft and warm alpaca yarn to knit a sweater, that sweater might as well have been purchased at Barneys for the cost of enough yarn to knit it, so I settled on a couple skeins of undyed Cascade baby alpaca and knitted myself a lovely little shawl/kerchief/neck warmer.

I followed these instructions from Ravelry and used most of my two skeins.  It is sumptuously soft and fuzzy, and I think I have enough yarn left over to knit a little headband ear warmer, but I haven’t gotten there just yet.  If you are interested I translated the Ravelry “recipe” into clearer pattern instructions, because frankly, I am still a notice knitter and need clear cut instructions to follow.  They are listed below for any interested knitters.
