I finally finished my scrappy diamond squares quilt. Gardening, canning and visiting with friends have taken over my free time lately, with little left for sewing. But I managed to squeeze this project in over the past few weeks. I picked a neutral navy background for my scrappy squares, hoping they would really pop, and I like that this took me in a more modern direction. I experimented with allover straight line quilting, which quite frankly took forever and was a pain in the ass. Also, I should really call this “organic stripe” quilting not “straight line”, since who am I kidding, there is nothing straight about these lines. But they still look purdy and I love the extra scrunchy-ness of such close quilting. If I had it to do over again I would have quilted a different pattern over the solids versus the pieced bits, so live and learn.
Finished quilt is about 40×50. And I love absolutely everything about the Juliana Horner backing fabric. I also love the tiny half square triangle borders. Linking up to Crazy Mom Quilts for a finish it up Friday.
This is such a great quilt. I like the ‘organic’ quilting on the blue background.
Gorgeous! I love Juliana Horner’s prints and it is fun seeing them used.
